Fleas \u2013Pesky bloodsuckers <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/span><\/strong>Fleas are extremely pesky and external parasites.\u00a0 This is because fleas have mouthparts adapted for piercing skin and sucking blood.\u00a0 They live off the blood from mammals which include us humans, bats and also birds.<\/p>\n

These nasty bloodsuckers are one of the best jumpers of all known\u00a0insects as\u00a0they can leap 200 times their own body length which is an amazing feat, second only to froghoppers.<\/p>\n

It is well known that fleas are tough to kill as they can jump so fast from one place to another that they seem to disappear and appear a few feet away.\u00a0 Furthermore, the body of a flea\u00a0is hard, polished and covered with many hairs and short spines.\u00a0 The tough and tiny body is able to withstand great pressure, likely an adaptation to survive through\u00a0attempts\u00a0by humans\u00a0to eliminate them by mashing or scratching.\u00a0 This can be disconcerting as even hard squeezing between the fingers is normally insufficient to kill a flea unless you have long nails which can be used to crush the pest.<\/p>\n

Eliminating Fleas<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Step 1<\/span><\/p>\n

Having a pet at home\u00a0has a high likelihood that you would be getting\u00a0flea attacks.\u00a0 If your cat or dog\u00a0is infested\u00a0with fleas, well,\u00a0it definitely has to be shampooed.\u00a0 There should be no problem washing dogs, but, for felines is\u00a0an entirely different matter as water is like heaven and hell\u00a0to them.\u00a0 Anyhow, flea shampoos are readily available in\u00a0many hypermarkets and pet stores.<\/p>\n

You can simply run a bathtub full of warm or cool water, gently place your squirming pet in the water and use a cup to prerinse it.\u00a0 Apply soap thoroughly, focusing especially\u00a0on the areas where the\u00a0fleas may be.\u00a0 The biggest mistake you can make is rinsing the soap off right away.\u00a0 If your dog is whining, just let it whine as it is for the better.\u00a0 When you see fleas leaping out of your dog\u2019s fur and into the water to be drowned, your dog is flea free and you can proceed to rinse the soap off your pet.<\/p>\n

Step 2<\/span><\/p>\n

The yard is a place where fleas roam freely.\u00a0 The easiest solution\u00a0at this stage is to use a flea pesticide which usually comes in a spray bottle that you can spray in your yard.\u00a0 The best way is to start from the edges of your\u00a0house and slowly work your way to the middle.\u00a0 This will keep new fleas from coming into your home.<\/p>\n

Step 3<\/span><\/p>\n

The biggest challenge is to vacuum your house thoroughly\u00a0as this will suck up any fleas, living or dead.\u00a0 Other than vacuuming, you could use a flea bomb which will fog your house.\u00a0 The only drawback of this method is that you have to get out of your house for a few hours for the fogging mist to dissipate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
