To make matter worse, house sparrows love to build their nests in and around\u00a0air vents, stoves, louvers as well as crevices of buildings.\u00a0 Nesting in fan vents can be especially dangerous as the nesting material could clog up the ventilation system resulting in\u00a0overheating and possible fire hazard.<\/p>\n
So, how do we\u00a0overcome such nuisance and\u00a0prevent problems caused by these finches?<\/p>\n
To solve the sparrow nesting problem, we can install nettings on the vents and at the openings of the building, clean and clear the louvers regularly, and cover the crevices with hardware cloth or any suitable mesh.\u00a0 Before you do the above and you find that there is\u00a0already a\u00a0nest built with\u00a0eggs or nestlings in it, remove the nest carefully\u00a0prior to\u00a0installing\u00a0vent cover.<\/p>\n
To minimize the problem of sparrows loitering outside your house, eateries and around garbage dumps, use birdproof trash containers and clear your garbage on a daily basis.<\/p>\n
Because of their outgrowing numbers, house sparrows are inclined to pillage birdhouses that are meant for habitation by other bird species.\u00a0 To avoid this, design and customize nest boxes according to the nesting needs of your preferred bird species.\u00a0 Next, place the boxes about 300 feet away from houses and other buildings as house sparrows do not like to nest too far away from buildings.\u00a0 Finally, it is suggested to feed black oil sunflower seeds to your birds because house sparrows do not favor such food.<\/p>\n
