To reduce or eliminate the flea problem in your house, the following methods are suggested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(i) Wash your linens on a regular basis. <\/b>Bedclothes, couch cushions and other garments must be washed regularly. Linen items that are infested with fleas are recommended to be washed in hot water in order to kill off the fleas as well as their eggs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(ii) Vacuum your house. <\/strong>Use a vacuum cleaner regularly for it can suck up the fleas and their eggs. Vacuum your upholstery, carpet and the entire floor thoroughly; for hard-to-reach areas such as cracks on the baseboards, use the hose attachment on the vacuum cleaner. After vacuuming, be sure to empty the vacuum bag outside the house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(iii) Diatomite<\/strong>. Scatter some diatomaceous earth over the areas in your house where you have seen the fleas. This magic powder can corrode their exoskeletons when they get into contact with it and thereby exterminate them. As a safety measure, wear a mask when you apply the diatomaceous earth. Leave the powder there for 24 hours and then vacuum it clean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(iv) Use baking soda or salt<\/strong>. Put some baking soda or salt on your rug or carpet. These ingredients will dry up any flea eggs on the carpet and kill them. Leave the baking soda or salt on the carpet for 4 hours or overnight and vacuum it up after that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(v) Dehumidifier<\/strong>. Fleas love to live in humid environment. Use a dehumidifier in your house to render the air drier so that they will find your home less habitable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(vi) Mow the herbage<\/strong>. Your garden can also serve as a potential habitat for fleas. This is because the tall grass shelters them from the hot sunlight. Mow your lawn regularly to ensure that the herbage stays short.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
